He scored his 1st platinum album in 1973 with the deeply-influential band Montrose. From there he scored two platinum albums as a solo artist with Billboard Top 100 hits throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s. Hagar joined Van Halen in 1985, replacing original frontman David Lee Roth. With Hagar, Van Halen won all of the major industry awards including MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year; Grammy Award for Best Hard RockPerformance; American Music Award for Favorite Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Album. Van Halen charted the most number-one hits in the history of Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart and they are one of the world’s best-selling bands of all time, having sold more than 80 million records. In 2009, Hagar formed supergroup Chickenfoot with guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and bassist Michael Anthony (Van Halen).
Sammy’s newest band, Sammy Hagar &The Circle, features Michael Anthony; drummer Jason Bonham, son of the late-John Bonham of Led Zeppelin and replacement drummer for Zeppelin over a many years span since his father’s death in 1980; and finally, guitarist Vic Johnson of Sammy’s own Waboritas band. Great show- but a short one.
Stoked! I get to see Bonham too! I wonder if Sam needs to teach Mike the bass parts? ;-)
