Montrose Bio
Montrose was a California-based hard rock band formed in 1973 and named after guitarist and founder Ronnie Montrose. The band's original lineup featured Montrose and Sammy on vocals, along with bassist Bill "Electric" Church and drummer Denny Carmassi. The group released two albums, the self-titled "Montrose" and followup "Paper Money" (on which Alan Fitzgerald replaced Church, who had departed), and Sammy left the band in 1975.
Montrose continued in various incarnations with other musicians over the years and Ronnie occasionally joined Sammy onstage live. Following Ronnie's death in 2012, Sammy reunited with Bill Church, Denny Carmassi with special guest Joe Satriani for a short set at the all-star tribute concert to honor Ronnie. The concert was aired on AXS.TV.
In 2017, Sammy (with special guest Steve Lukather) were featured on "Color Blind", a track off of the final album from Ronnie Montrose, 10X10. The classic two Montrose albums were also expanded and reissued.
